CfL’s goal is to lift the leadership quality in Danish businesses

We do it because we believe that leadership is the single factor which is of the greatest importance for business success. And we believe that the business world is to lead the way and make the necessary changes.

The Danish industry has, and for quite a while, found itself in a serious situation. The productivity numbers themselves are frightening and a long line of megatrends need their implications to be thoroughly discussed. How is one to ensure a strong competitive skill, a well-educated work force, high employment, and green growth?

We fear that the necessary discussions regarding what the industry can and must do are losing their listing on the political, macroeconomic agenda.

Thus, at the beginning of this calendar year, we have launched CfL’s Forum for Productivity and Development among the members of CfL. During the calendar year of 2010 and 2011 we commit to the task and bring out our complete set of development tools, including our indicators, top management dinners, clubhouse meetings, and other development activities. And we will make sure that the results and themes are continuously communicated and discussed through the media.

CfL’s Forum for Productivity and Development is structured as meeting sessions, containing four meetings to start with. Between these meeting, CfL will conduct analyses, discussions and experiments.

We wish to influence the Danish leadership agenda and make it acknowledge the decisions, which Danish leaders have to make, and the tasks which Danish corporate managements must approach to improve the business competitive skills in Denmark.

The way to do it is to make changes at the bottom, forcing the top to follow. Thus, it is a thought-to action tank rather than a think tank. Think big, start small, and make fast climbs. CfL is the place where proactive, Danish leaders meet and discuss leadership. With approximately 1,000 companies in this community and our useful access to the media, we experience that we have the power to scale the things that work. Quickly and efficiently.

Facts about productivity

While the productivity growth has been around 2.8 % per year up until 1995, it has on average been below 0.8 % since 1995 – a devastating decrease of 2 percentage points.
Only Italy has had a lower annual productivity growth. This is where the problem is located because every year the distance to the other OECD countries becomes larger in the wrong direction.

In the mid-1990s, the Danish productivity was 30 % above average in OECD – today, we are on average. In the mid-1990s, we were rated 7th – today, we are rated 12th, and when we compare ourselves to the best (top 5) in OECD – Norway, Holland, Ireland, Belgium, France – they create 35 % more value during 1 working hour compared to us. Adjusted for Norway, whose oil has increased in value, the productivity level in the best countries is approximately 25 % higher than the Danish.
